JAMES GLOSSMAN (Director) James is happy to be back at NJ Rep, where last season he directed the East Coast premiere of Circumference of a Squirrel in a co-production with Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey. His productions over the past year have included All My Sons w/Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss, Gin Game w/William Schallert, Boy Meets Girl w/John Astin, and The Value of Names w/Jack Klugman & Louis Zorich in a 3-theatre co-production in NYC. In October he directed the well-received world premiere of Guillermo Reyes' political/ethnic screwball farce Sunrise at Monticello at Playwrights, where he also directed the world premiere of his own play, The Special Prisoner, starring William Schallert, adapted from the novel by Jim Lehrer---after the play also won first prize at the Southwestern Festival of New Plays in Houston, TX; and the concert reading of Lehrer's play, The Will and Bart Show, with an all-star cast including Josef Sommer, Frank Converse, Pamela Payton-Wright, and John Astin. Associate Artistic Director of Playwrights, he has also directed the Rose City Project, an ongoing series of prose and play readings funded by the NJ State Arts Council, featuring such notable actors as Mason Adams, Jayne Atkinson, Sam Coppola, Frankie Faison, Maryann Plunkett, Priscilla Lopez, Ron McLarty, Joe Morton, Vin Scelsa, Jay O. Sanders, and Louis Zorich, among others. At Luna Stage: Kick the Can, Waiting for Godot, Macbeth, Travesties, True West, The Collection, Immoral Imperatives (also again on Cape Cod w/Laura Esterman and Malachi Throne), and world premieres of Sheldon Harnick's Dragons and Behind the Scenes at the Museum. Bluff (w/John Astin) in NY and Baltimore; rediscovered and directed the lost American political thriller Spread Eagle at L.A. Theatre Works (w/Edward Asner, Sharon Gless, Fred Savage, Paul Murphy,& Jamey Sheridan.) His adaptation of Stephen Crane's The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky produced for NPR at WGBH-Boston. Screenplay adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's Bluebeard optioned by Quince Productions in Los Angeles. Graduate of Northwestern University, ACT-San Francisco, BADA-Oxford, and Yale School of Drama. Visiting Lecturer in Directing, Johns Hopkins University.
