LARRY LOEBELL (Playwright) Larry Loebell is a 2006 recipient of a New Play Commissions in Jewish Theater from the National Foundation for Jewish Culture. He is a four time winner of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowship in playwriting, and a former winner of the Pennsylvania Playwriting Prize. La Tempestad, a play loosely based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest, had its premiere in October 2005 at the Ohio Theater in New York City produced by The Resonance Ensemble, and will be published in the fall of 2006 by New York Theater Experience in an anthology called Playing With Canons: Explosive Work from Great Literature by America’s Indy Playwrights. Other plays include The Ballad of John Wesley Reed, which had its world premiere in Philadelphia in the Spring of 2005, and Memorial Day, winner of the Eileen Heckert Award for plays about Seniors. Five of his plays are published by Playscripts.com. From 1998 to 2005 Larry was the Literary Manager and Dramaturg at InterAct Theatre Company in Philadelphia where he worked on 14 world premiere productions. Larry also dramaturged New Paradise Laboratories’ Planetary Enzyme Blues which had its world premiere in the 2005 Live Arts Festival in Philadelphia, and at PlayPenn in 2005 and 2006. |
