A Short Wake: Two brothers, Teddy and Jimmy, driven apart since childhood by the death of their mother, meet once more. We are in a New York funeral parlor; their father lies in a casket. Jimmy, the younger brother, has come to celebrate the death of his father, and to finally close the door on a past that has haunted him his entire adult life. Teddy the older brother, has come to mourn the loss of the same father, who he has only come to know and care for in the last few weeks of his father’s life, Teddy has spent those weeks pretending to be Jimmy, and now Teddy will stop at nothing in order to open that door to the past and its secrets. Through the death of the father we finally learn the truth behind the mother’s death, and which brother, if any, was ultimately responsible for it. Finally we may learn just who it was that sent those cheap flowers.
