The Last Detail: In a stage adaptation of Darryl Ponicsan's novel, a couple of hardened sailors, Mule and Billy "Badass," take a grunt who has drawn a long prison term for shoplifting from Norfolk to the naval prison in Portsmouth, showing him a good time along the way. The book was also the basis for a 1973 film starring Jack Nicholson, but in this adaptation for the stage, Neil Genzlinger sticks to the original novel, which has a far darker ending than the film, and a far different message about the price of blindly following bad orders.
